Step by Step FAQs

There are always questions about what steps do I take and how do I go about doing this web thing. I remember back when I started wanting to learn about web sites, I had no idea what I was doing or in what order to do them.

  • First of all, you will need to select a domain name. The name is not expensive, usually around $10 per year and nobody can have that name after you get it. Its also important to use some key words in your name. If you sell jewelry, you may want to pick something with jewelry in the name. Or if you are an independent consultant with Home and Garden Party, you may want to put that in the name of your domain (you will want to check with your company regarding allowable uses of their trademark) Go to a place like Godaddy for your domain. I trust Godaddy with all of my domains and I have about 30.

After you have signed up with Godaddy, you will want to send your login information to me so I can change your DNS server.

  • After you have got your domain name you will need Hosting. Hosting is needed to air your website. These usually cost around $10 or less per month. I use Blue Host for all my hosting needs. Their best deal is $7.95 per month, but you will be expected to pay 12 months. To get their $6.95 pricing, you will be expected to pay for 36 months. When you go into Blue Host, you will be expected to use my link. They share an affiliate fee with me, which helps me to keep my pricing lower for you. When you go to BlueHost you will select Transfer Clients, the reason I don’t go with them for my domain, is that I prefer my domains to be separate from my host. If you should ever decide to go with a different host, it is much easier to simply cancel the host and not worry about the domain. Some people have accidentally lost their domain trying to just cancel their host.

After you have your login information for Blue Host you will need to send me the login information.

  • Next- After these two items are complete, I will send you a paypal invoice for the deposit. It will be half of whatever agreement we have made. With html and custom sites, the estimate is just that, an estimate and can be higher depending on how custom you want the site.
  • For a simple site- 3 templates will be made per your suggestion of what you like.. You will then select from the 3 and we will go from there. For a custom site; 5 templates will be made per your suggestions of what you like and then customized from there.
  • After the site is complete; a paypal invoice for the balance will be sent and expected to be paid immediately.
